I have never heard such a beautiful rendition of my mom’s favorite hymn as this one, only in part because “Shane & Shane” include the all-important second verse that’s omitted by so many others these days.

I remember Mom belting out Holy Holy Holy in her deep alto voice, embarrassing me because she sang with such passion. If only she could hear me now!

She would have turned 100 years old on Christmas 2020. I’d give anything to have her standing by my side, together singing our hearts out to the Lord. But I guess I’ll have to wait till heaven–where we’ll all be singing Holy, Holy, Holy—and never, ever skipping Verse 2:

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,

Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;

Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,

Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.

I remember asking her, “How come we keep singing holy holy holy three times–over and over again?”

She responded as she always did, in her very matter-of-fact, non-churchy way: “Because twice isn’t enough.”

Let me know which version is your favorite:

Shane & Shane  or  Audrey Assad  or  Hillsong United
